The rise of the Burroughs program in recent years mirrored Van Doren’s development. The Bombers went 4-5 in 2008 with Van Doren splitting time at QB, 5-4 in 2009 with Van Doren as a starter, and then 14-1 as the state runners-up in Class 3 this fall. He completed 63.4 percent of his passes for 3,210 yards and 42 touchdowns, both area bests, against just 10 interceptions. 

The explosive Davis capped an incredible two-year run with a strong senior season. He carried 295 times for 2,738 yards, an average of 9.3 yards per carry, and scored 33 total touchdowns. He rushed for 2,497 yards and scored 34 touchdowns as a junior. 

A versatile weapon, Harris rushed 220 times for 1,438 yards, an averaging of 6.5 yards per carry, and 25 touchdowns. He caught 64 passes for 572 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw for 60 yards and two more scores. For the season, Harris racked up 2,010 total yards and accounted for 29 touchdowns. 

Parkway North graduated its top three rushers from the 2009 squad, but because of Hawkins the rushing attack didn’t miss a beat this fall. Hawkins rushed for 1,363 yards and scored 26 total touchdowns, including three scores on returns, and was selected the offensive player of the year for the Suburban South Conference. 

A four-year varsity player, Minor was the top East St. Louis wide receiver the last two seasons. This season, he had 57 catches for 1,048 yards and 15 total touchdowns, including two on returns. He had 42 catches for 812 yards and eight touchdowns as a junior. Minor has verbally committed to Arkansas. 

Todd and quarterback Scott Lathrop were two of the key players for a Warriors program that went from 6-5 last season to 11-4 and a runner-up finish in Class 4 this fall. Todd caught 71 passes for 1,229 yards and 13 touchdowns, rushed for 143 yards and four scores and also had a return for a touchdown for a total of 18 scores. 

A dynamic playmaker the past three seasons, Wallace is a two-time first-team All-Metro selection and twice was named the ABC League player of the year. He caught 81 passes for 1,141 yards and finished with 24 total touchdowns this season, including six scores on returns. In three varsity seasons, he had 182 catches for 3,194 receiving yards and scored 62 total touchdowns.

He entered the season as the lone returning starter on the Panthers offensive line and helped O’Fallon go 8-2 and win the Southwestern Conference championship. The Panthers gained 1,617 yards rushing and 1,464 passing yards, an average of 308.1 yards per game. 

The Flyers had three offensive linemen earn first-team all-conference honors — Clay, Clint Tucker and Donte Holman — for their part in making East St. Louis one of the area’s top offenses. The Flyers racked up 1,975 yards rushing and 1,894 passing — an average of 386.9 total yards over 10 games. Clay has verbally committed to Akron. 

The big left tackle was one of the top players in St. Charles County this fall and helped make the Vikings’ dynamic offense even more dangerous. Howell went 10-2 and racked up 2,633 yards rushing and 2,310 passing for an average of 411.9 yards per game. Killian has verbally committed to Tulane. 

It’s hard to miss the big left tackle for the Statesmen, as he towered over his teammates and opponents every time he stepped on the field. Roberts helped pave the way for Webster Groves to rack up 3,343 yards rushing and 2,957 passing in 14 games, an average of 450 yards per game, in going 13-1 and finishing second in Class 5.

A fixture on the East St. Louis offensive line for a few seasons, Tucker is a two-time first-team All-Metro selection. The Flyers had one of the better offenses in the area, averaging 45.8 points per game. Has has verbally committed to Illinois. 

A major weapon the last two seasons, when he made 11 field goals and regularly boomed his kickoffs into the end zone. As a senior, he made five field goals, 50 extra points and averaged 59.1 yards on his 72 kickoffs. He also averaged 38.8 yards on his 39 punt attempts in his first year as the team’s punter.

An impact player wherever he lined up along the defensive line, Miller was credited with 56 tackles, including four for losses, and a team-high nine sacks for a Parkway North squad that went 7-3 and finished second in the Suburban South Conference. 

A marked man this season after being selected the Suburban West Conference defensive player of the year and first-team All-Metro as a junior, Robinson nevertheless was an impact player at defensive end. He was credited with 71 tackles, including 13 for losses, with nine sacks and three fumble recoveries. 

The Missouri Coaches Association Class 2 defensive player of the year, Taylor was one of the catalysts for a defense that allowed 12.3 points a game en route to a 14-1 season and runner-up finish in Class 2. He racked up 87 tackles, including 28 for loss, and an area-best 21 sacks. Also a tight end, Taylor scored seven touchdowns, including three on returns. 

The Suburban East Conference defensive player of the year, Webb was credited with 109 tackles, 20 sacks and two fumble recoveries in helping Jennings advance to the second round of the Class 4 playoffs, where they lost to state runner-up Warrenton.

A rare three-year starter for Central, Chappelle was key in helping the Hawks win back-to-back Missouri Class 6 championships before finishing second this season. In 2010, he racked up 125 tackles, and had two sacks, two fumble recoveries and one interception. Hazelwood Central went 13-1 and allowed 12.6 points per game.

Like his teammate Chappelle, Dunlap also started at linebacker for the Hawks for three seasons. A two-year first-team All-Metro selection and twice tabbed by the Missouri Football Coaches Association as the Class 6 defensive player of the year, Dunlap led Central with 176 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, nine sacks and two fumble recoveries this fall.

The AAA player of the year this season after sharing the honor last year, Hicks had 130 tackles, three sacks and two interceptions. He led a Lions defense that allowed just 8.8 points per game. Hicks also scored three rushing touchdowns and had one return for a score. 

The Suburban West Conference defensive player of the year, Smith racked up 94 tackles, including 11 for losses, and had three sacks and one interception. He also scored six touchdowns as the team’s fullback. 

Also a quarterback, Clemons is one of the top two-way players in the area and a two-time first-team All-Metro selection. He was credited with 67 tackles, three interceptions and one fumble recovery, and he racked up 1,747 total yards (1,100 passing, 647 rushing) and accounted for 34 touchdowns while splitting time at quarterback. 

A free safety, Faulkner has been an impact player in the Flyers secondary the last two seasons. This fall, he racked up 63 tackles, a team-high three interceptions and also had one fumble recovery. He kicked five field goals. Faulkner has verbally committed to Kentucky. 

The Wildcats were known for their offense this season, as they racked up 514 points and more than 5,000 total yards. But Fine made it difficult for opponents to pass the ball, with his area-leading nine interceptions. He was credited with 43 tackles.

An impact player at wide receiver and defensive back, Jordan had 46 tackles and eight interceptions for a Hawks defense that allowed just 12.6 points per game. Jordan also had 31 catches for 679 yards and scored eight touchdowns, including one return score.

The Indians struggled this season, but Buchanan was one of the bright spots as he averaged 45.91 yards on his 32 punts. He also caught 22 passes for 300 yards and three touchdowns, rushed for 38 yards and a touchdown and recorded 33 tackles on defense.

A touchdown machine for the 9-1 Lions, the quarterback-running back rushed for 1,534 yards and 34 touchdowns and threw for 698 yards and seven touchdowns. He accounted for a total of 41 touchdowns in just 10 games.

One of the area’s top playmakers, Lathrop led the Warriors to an 11-4 record and a runner-up finish in Class 4. He completed 57.1 percent of his passes for 2,283 yards, with 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, ran 270 times for 1,833 yards and 21 touchdowns and added a return score to account for 46 total touchdowns. He also racked up 72 tackles and three interceptions as a defensive back.

It would be hard to find a player who did more for his team than Neal this season. A Division I recruit as a wide receiver, because of injuries to teammates Neal also played quarterback, running back, cornerback and safety, and he returned punts and kickoffs. He rushed for 1,001 yards and 10 touchdowns, threw for 506 yards and eight touchdowns, and caught 17 passes for 407 yards and eight TDs. He also scored five touchdowns on returns.

Hagens had his first year as the Blue Devils varsity quarterback cut short by an appendectomy, but he made a big impact when he was on the field. He completed 63.5 percent of his passes for 1,937 yards, with 24 touchdowns against just five interceptions, and also ran for 140 yards and two touchdowns.

Threw for 3,201 yards and 24 TDs, ran for 1,071 yards and 12 TDs.

Rushed for 1,471 yards, with 8.4 yards per carry, and 23 total TDs.

Scharff had some eye-popping numbers, including an area-best slugging percentage of 1.351. Scharff batted 667, with five homers and 38 RBI. A Class 4 all-state first-teamer, 24 of her 38 hits went for extra bases. A 4.0 student, Scharff will take her smarts and skills to Emory University.

A standout on the mound and at the plate for a team that went undefeated in the Gateway Athletic Conference North and 24-3 overall. Moore was 20-3 with a 0.75 ERA, and she led the team with a .538 batting average. She was first-team all-state and player of the year in the conference. Moore will play at Purdue.

Player of the year in the Suburban South Conference and a second-team Class 4 all-state pick, Cooper was the offensive catalyst for the Falcons, finishing the season with a .582 batting average. That helped the Falcons to a 20-win season and an undeafeated record in conference play.

Arguably the most feared hitter in the area, the Florida recruit set multiple career school records and finished the season with a .605 average, with six homers and 42 RBI. She drew 15 walks and did never struck out. Damico was Four Rivers Conference Player of the Year and a first-team Class 4 All-State selection.

A Tulsa signee, Edwards was one of the area's top power hitters from the day she stepped on the diamond as a freshman. She finished her senior season with six homers and 35 RBI and hit .536 for the state champions while playing a solid third base. She was a first-team Class 4 all-state pick.

A four-time Class 3 all-state pick and Southeast Missouri recruit, McAllister led the area with 62 hits, compiling a .608 average. She struck out just once in 110 plate appearances and was the Suburban East Conference player of the year for the second season in a row, helping Affton go unbeaten in league play.

Another key contributor for the Class 4 state champs, Wolf led the area in home runs (11), while hitting .450. A first baseman, she drove in 36 runs and had a slugging percentage of 1.025. Wolf was a first team all-conference and Class 4 all-state pick who will attend Jefferson College.

A Mizzou recruit, she hit .598 and was among the area leaders in runs scored (55) and hits (61). Crane was the Gateway Athletic Conference South Player of the Year for a team that went undefeated in the conference and was 28-3 overall. She was a first-team Class 4 All-State selection.

One of the area's premier defensive center fielders, Pauley had five diving catches and eight assists. But she also excelled at the plate, hitting .482 with six homers. She was all-conference first team for the third straight year and also was a first-team Class 4 all-state selection.

The Hawks were one of the area's top offensive teams, and speedster Torrence was a major factor. She hit .505 and led the area in triples (11), while stealing 19 bases. Hillsboro finished 23-5 and was co-champion with Festus in the Jefferson County Conference. Torrence was a first team Class 4 all-state pick.

Hit. 482 and drove in 45 runs to earn Class 4 all-state second-team recognition.

Suburban North player of the year won 21 games and had a 0.47 ERA while leading the Stars to the conference title.

Southpaw was 18-7 in leading the Angels to their first final four appearance.
